Apply July 15 – 27 for the Sentient Squid Scholarship to attend the Writing the Other Weekend Intensive session held online August 12 – 14 2016.
In recognition of the fact that many of the writers who would benefit from and want to take our class cannot afford it financially, there are four spots in this session available to students we select based on:
- A brief (1000 or fewer words) writing sample and
- A brief (300 or fewer words) statement on why they want to take the class and need financial assistance to do so.
Please send both in the body of an email (no attachments, please) to wto at ktempestbradford dot com by 11:59PM Pacific July 27.
Instructors Nisi Shawl and K. Tempest Bradford will inform applicants of their standing by August 3rd.
How is this possible?
Three of the Sentient Squid Scholarship spots were funded by anonymous donors, one was made possible by the I Should Be Writing and Ditch Diggers podcasts. We are overwhelmed and extremely grateful for the generosity of these donors and their commitment to opening up this learning opportunity to more writers.
Who should apply for this?
Any writer who wants to learn this skill but cannot afford to pay for the class.
Apply even if your definition of “can’t afford” is that you can’t spare your funds for a class, not just if you don’t have the money at all. Our goal with this scholarship–and the stated desires of some donors–is to make Writing the Other accessible to a wider number of writers, not just more accessible to a certain type.
It costs nothing to apply. Don’t self-eliminate!
